QuickAdvice: Relax to the Tunes of Digitally Imported Radio
Digitally Imported Radio (Free) by AudioAddict Inc is the official app for di.fm, a multi-channel Internet radio home for electronic dance music.
This service has been around for quite a while, but I have just picked up on it today, thanks to the help of Twitter and the power of social networking.
With the free Digitally Imported Radio app, you can tune into dozens of different channels, all which serve up different flavors of electronic dance music (there's actually tons of flavors!). From the main screen, you can browse from Channels, upcoming live Shows, view the community on Facebook and Twitter, and an option to upgrade to a Premium account with di.fm. Channels and shows can be favorited for easy access later.
The app itself is free and ad-supported, and there is no account required to actually use the app. You're granted access to all of the channels and shows, with a 64k AAC audio quality and full audio multitasking with iOS 4.0. If you decide to upgrade (30 days for $3.99 or 3 months for $13.99) to Premium via in-app purchase, you'll get no ads and 128k AAC audio.
I'm personally more of the alternative and rock music listener, but I actually do enjoy a lot of variety. I don't get around to listening to electronic music much, but I can see myself getting more of that in my life thanks to this app. I found the variety of the channels and shows to be very diverse and enjoyable.
The app itself is smooth and beautiful looking on the Retina Display (though the splash screen doesn't seem optimized for it). All of the channels will have a description of the kind of music it offers, so you can easily find something to suit whatever mood your in. I found the 'Chillout' channel to be quite relaxing and joyful.
Digitally Imported Radio has been out for years, but this is actually the first I've heard of it. And now I think I will become a continued listener - the music that's offered is incredible, and I'm even surprised that it's free at all! If you are a fan of electronic or dance music, then this is definitely one to pick up.
