Donut Ninja - Tappi Bear ($0.99) by Taplay is a mini game where you have to fend off the oncoming bears with donuts.

Donuts sure are a popular item in iPhone games lately, aren't they? Just last week we reviewed a game that involved a donut factory. And now, we're going into a mini game of feeding donuts to the enemy.

The game is simple enough - feed donuts to the enemy bears by throwing them (tapping the enemies), and they will go away. If you let them get to you, then it's game over. There are random UFOs that pop up every now and then too, which give you bonus points if you get them with donuts.

I found the controls to be simple enough, and it is actually a nice challenge since the bears come at you pretty dang quickly. Throw in those UFOs for bonus points and you get a donut feeding frenzy.

This is a simple game, but a very fun one. It's just another one of those 'can you beat your own high score?' type of games, which always end up rather addictive for a while.

The graphics are simple, not really optimized for the iPhone 4, but overall you won't really notice because you'll be too busy throwing donuts. There is also OpenFeint integration, so you can get and share achievements. If you get bored, try getting all the achievements in OpenFeint and get more points for your gamer profile.

This is actually the third in Taplay's Tappi Bear series, with the other two games being Donut Dance and Space Rush. Donut Dance is a memory type game, where you must remember the last bear that had the donut. The game starts out simple with 4 bears and gets complicated with up to 16, and the donut moving ever faster on the screen. Space Rush is just a 'how far can you go' game in where you must avoid all oncoming obstacles by sliding to the left or right, while collecting donuts.

If you want a quick pick-up-and-play game, then Donut Ninja (or even Donut Dance or Space Rush) is a good choice. For a dollar, it can provide a good amount of entertainment and more than likely you'll be coming back for more adorable bears and donuts. I found myself picking it up pretty often when I have a couple of minutes to spare.
