iCademy - discover your iPhone (Free) by daemgen.net iCademy by daemgen.net is the best of the “iPhone tips, tricks, and manuals” apps I have found in the app store. I know that most of our readers are already iPhone experts, but some of us could always use a few pointers. Sure, there was a lot I already knew, but I definitely learned a few things from iCademy. Best of all, this app is free.

Most of the other free apps in this genre give a couple dozen tips, and then they suggest you buy the full version for more. Not iCademy -- this IS the full version of this app. They do push one of their other apps, ProCamera, in subtle and non-so-subtle ways, but I did not find it distracting or off-putting. After all, they have to make their money somewhere.

iCademy has a lovely UI, resembling a paper notebook (remember those?). The Table of Contents has 11 subject areas: General Usage, Keyboard, Phone, Safari and Mail, Camera & Photos, ProCamera (yes, you get a whole chapter! Subtle, right?), iPod Music and Video, Troubleshooting, Special Tips, iOS 4, and iPhone 4 Extras. Each “chapter” is further divided into several (up to a dozen) “sub-chapters”, each of which contains anywhere from one to ten tips. Tips seem to be focused on the 3GS and 4 models, but owners of earlier models will still find useful iPhone information.

It took me about an hour to read the whole app, taking time out to try out some of the tips. I will keep it on my iPhone as a reference. If I need to look something up, I’ll easily be able to find it in the well-organized Table of Contents.

Considering the paltry information contained in the “owner’s manual” that came with the iPhone, iCademy, with its free price tag, seems like an obvious supplement. My mother recently purchased her first iPhone, and this app was the first one I suggested she download!

iCademy is free, it’s helpful, why not give it a try? You just may learn something new about your iPhone.
