QuickAdvice: Carry The TWiT Network With You Thanks To Mediafly
TWiT powered by Mediafly (Free) by Mediafly gives you the ability to carry all of the TWiT Network podcasts right on your iPhone or iPad.
Once the app is launched, you'll get a complete listing of every single TWiT Network podcast, audio and video. The app will need a data connection to get the listings and to stream any media, but there is also an option to 'preload' an episode. Preloading an episode will basically just download it so you can listen or watch it later.
The app will display information about the series and episode description. Video playback will be like any other video on your iDevice, with options to view in portrait or landscape and full screen.
If you want to skip ahead or go back to a point in the podcast, the scrubber will help you out with that. If you pause the episode and come back to it later, even if it's not pre-loaded it will pick up where you last left off, which is pretty nice.
There's settings to help you customize your experience with the app, and even a nice "Shake" Navigation feature that allows you to navigate through episodes by shaking. I'm pretty sure that this is easier to do on the iPhone than the iPad, not to mention you won't look as weird.
You can view downloaded (and downloading) episodes from the Preloade, which is hidden in the menu. There's also something called the Sync Log, which shows you what episodes where added to the catalog and when. The Play Log shows what episodes you've played and when. If you choose to, the logs can be cleared or e-mailed from within the app. It helps to keep track of how much you've used the app. The Sync Log also notes when there's been low memory detected, which actually comes in handy.
This app contains a lot of content, and it's awesome that it's free. I think that TWiT Powered By Mediafly is great for the free price tag. Unfortunately, it only seems that this app contains completed episodes that have been uploaded, it does not show live shows.
If you want live shows on-the-go, TWiTpad is probably the way to go. But if you just want the collection of TWiT podcasts without hogging up all of your device's hard drive space, then this app can't be beat, especially at the price.
