QuickAdvice: Feed Your YouTube Frenzy With MiTube [UPDATE: Removed]
MiTube (Free) by Max Weisel is an app that will allow users to stream or download their own copy of YouTube videos in low, high, or even HD (when available) quality straight onto their iDevice. This is a free universal app supported by ads. Originally, this app was only available on jailbroken iPhones via Cydia, but it has just been released in Apple's official App Store!
When you launch it, the Videos section will be empty. Hit the magnifying glass to search the wonderful world of YouTube for any video you desire. When you find a video, you select it and can view the 'More Info' section of the video, and then are presented with Streaming or Downloading options.
Low quality is for when the device is on a slow connection, such as EDGE or 3G. High and HD are recommended for Wi-Fi connections. An important thing to note is that if you don't have a grandfathered unlimited plan on AT&T (for the US folk), then better be careful of how much you download before being bitten in the behind with sharp data usage rates!
Streaming will just get the standard QuickTime movie screen that we've gotten used to by this point on iDevices. Choosing the download option will get a notification informing you to close the search so you can watch that blue download progress bar go!
When there's a download going, there will be a separate 'Downloads' section. Completed downloads will then be pushed into a separate 'Videos' section. Now you can watch your videos without ever needing a data connection again!
This is a great app for YouTube junkies. In this day and age, YouTube is one of the biggest sites on the Internet, and I'm pretty sure we've all had a moment where we thought to ourselves 'man, I'd love to have this video on my phone to have everywhere! Then I can show it to friends!' and all that stuff.
This app does that, and it does it perfectly. You search for a video, download it (or stream it, maybe if you're low on storage space on your device), wait a bit (you can twiddle your thumbs now), and then you'll have your very own copy right on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
Originally a Cydia app, now it's available for all the general public to feed their YouTube frenzy. The app is free, but donations can be made to the developer (just like in the original Cydia version!). With such an ingenius app, the developer deserves a little something, right?
UPDATE:This app has now been pulled from the App Store.
