QuickAdvice: Get Your Daily Dose of Amazing Facts with OMG Facts

August 17, 2010

OMG Facts (Free) by AppRats is the official universal app for OMG Facts.

Those of you that are not familiar, OMG Facts provides crazy, wacky facts that you may have never known otherwise. There's the official web site at www.omg-facts.com and then there's their ever popular Twitter feed with almost a million followers. And now, there's the app.

When the app is first launched, it will load up the most recent facts. It will tell you it may take a moment to pull the feeds, dependent on your data connection speed.

The app is reminiscent of the web site - it will show the title of the fact, then have a brief yet detailed description. A photo will be shown, and then there will be a line to separate that from the next fact. There are about 20 facts displayed on the first page.

You are supposed to be able to view older facts with the 'More' option at the end of the first page, but I have found this to be non-functional. Every time I tap for more, I get the same 20 or so facts I just seen. It seems to be a bug and hopefully the developers will fix this in the future. So for now, it seems that you will only be able to view the latest 20 facts, a real letdown. The facts should update when there are new facts on the site, since it seems to just pull from there.

The video feed can be viewed in the app as well, and when you select a video, it will display any additional info about it. Hit the Play button and it will begin playing the YouTube videos as they always play in every other app. Nothing special here.

If you're a Twitter fan, you can view their official Twitter feed right from the app. It's basically just an in-app browser that shows their feed with the mobile web version.

If you're an OMG Facts fan, then this app may be worth picking up. But they need to fix the problem with loading more facts ASAP, because it's pointless if you can't browse older facts you may have missed.

So far, it's just very basic and you could probably get more content via the site or Twitter feed. But hey, it's free. And who knows, maybe the developers are actually aware of the issue and will push out an update to fix this problem.

So you could get the app and save it for later, maybe when it's more functional.

With the free price tag for both your iPhone and iPad, you have nothing to lose and only some crazy and wacky knowledge to gain!
