QuickAdvice: What Are You Up To? Let The World Know With PicPlz
picplz (Free) by picplz allows you to quickly share what you're doing to your social networks in a snap.
Social networking is all the rage nowadays, and we all share photos of anything on our networks. Well, PicPlz is now available, and it's a slick way to visually share with your friends what you're doing.
First things first, you'll have to make an account to use PicPlz. But the app allows you to create an account from the login screen, and it's quite painless and will only take a few seconds of your day.
Once that's done, it's time to link up your social networks: Twitter, Foursquare, and Facebook. Yes, it's only three, but it's probably the three most used ones anyway. Maybe more networks can be added in the future.
Now that the accounts are set up, you're ready to start sharing!
The main screen will be the camera, which works just like the regular, default Camera.app. Flash and front facing camera will work on the iPhone 4, though I'm not sure about tap-to-focus since there isn't a box to show the area you focused on. But the autofocus is sharp and will focus on what you need anyway, so it's not a huge deal. Snap the photo with the shutter button.
The image will then be displayed in the background and you'll have an option to add a caption and select a location (but this is all optional). You can manually select which networks to send the update too as well, which is nice. If you select a location and have Foursquare selected, it will automatically check you in to the venue too, which is cool (but this can be checked off in your Linked Accounts in the app Settings).
Once you're done with the caption, location, and networks, it's time to send that post! Hit the Post button and a progress bar will be shown, but the nice thing is that the app supports uploads in the background. It uploaded pretty quickly too, and immediately started showing up on my networks.
If you ever need to access the app settings, on the camera screen there's a speech bubble button next to the shutter button. This is the Settings. You can manage your account settings and linked accounts. There's an option for the camera too, which is to Save to Library - 1) When I post a pic, 2) Always, and 3) Never. The default is set to option 1, but you can change that anytime.
I found the app to be quite a pleasure to use. The interface is nice and smooth, especially for a 1.0 app. I experienced no crashing or freezing, and it was just a great experience overall.
I just hope that a couple more networks can be added in the future, maybe like Posterous and Tumblr, even Gowalla since Foursquare is there.
I'm not sure why I had to make another account to just share stuff with other social accounts though. That seems a bit unnecessary, but at least the process of it was painless.
If you're the type to share plenty of photos on Twitter and Facebook, and use Foursquare all the time, then this app is definitely one to get, especially at the price tag of free.
