Rocknor

Rocknor's Donut Factory ($0.99) by Duff Research is a fun and challenging conveyor belt puzzle game in which you must find the right path for the process of creating donuts for shipping to your hungry robot customers!

This was originally a PC game, until now with this fine iPhone port. The goal of the game is simple - get your donuts made and ship them off to feed hungry robots. But that can be easier said than done.

There are five buildings to unlock after the first tutorial building, which is pretty much learn-as-you-play. Each building after that will grow more and more challenging, which could take all of your brainpower to find the solution to.

You basically will have to find the right path using 'conveyor belts' that will control where your donut has to go. You start off with uncooked dough, which will have to make it to the shaper, then cooker, then the froster, and finally be shipped off with the green shipping exit. If you do steps out of order, there will be an error sound and your dough or donut will be burned. You have a set of specific donuts that you have to make in each level which will be shown on the right.

Overall it sounds simple, right? But each building will add more obstacles that get in your way, and you have to find out what is the best path that will make everything alright.

You can find multiple solutions to the levels (when possible), and also test out your solution as many times as you want without penalty, until you find the right solution. You can also restart the level if you need to.

The music and sound effects of the game are pretty awesome, and will definitely immerse you into the game. There are 111 levels in five different factories, and over 15 different donut making machines that will help you in your goal. The speed of the game can be toggled for slow, medium, and fast speeds by the little toggle on the right hand side, beneath the power button to turn the machines on.

You can play around with your proposed solution as many times as you need without being penalized, and the game will automatically save your progress. You can also have up to four player profiles, each with their own saved game which can be resumed at any time.

The game starts out easy enough, but even in the later tutorial levels it begins to get hard and truly tests your puzzle solving ability. The animation is smooth, the graphics are great (even though they don't seem to be Retina display optimized to me), and the gameplay is fun and addictive and will leave you scratching your head at some point but you'll be motivated to finally figure it out eventually.

Overall, this is truly a great puzzle game that any puzzle fan should pick up. And with the $.99 introductory price until August 19, this is one that should not be missed. Get it for less than a dollar now or regret it later!

And also, don't forget the donuts. Because you'll be wanting some while you play this game.
