QuickAdvice: Test Your Logic Skills By Capturing The Screetch

August 13, 2010
The Screetch by Piston Games ($1.99) is a turn-based logic game involving matching up 3 cloudy spheres in order to stop the Screetches from capturing the spheres, and therefore capture the Screetches into the flask instead. No, I don't know what the Screetches are, or why they're trying to get these cloudy spheres. But I do know that this game is insanely fun and addictive. You are to stop these 'Screetches' from getting those colorful spheres that you see filling up your screen. Match up 3 spheres in a vertical or horizontal line and this will cause them to explode and you capture a Screetch. The controls are simple - just tap the line you wish to put the new sphere in. That's it. The flask on the right hand side shows your progress - it must be filled for you to proceed to the next level. When you achieve combos by matching up spheres in rapid succession, you will then get a 'supercharged' sphere. Match this supercharged sphere up and it will eliminate all spheres in a cross shaped formation from that epicenter and help fill up the flask even faster. Be careful though, as Screetches are on the screen, they will try and consume the spheres. When a sphere turns all black, it's too late to save that sphere. But by getting neighboring spheres to match and explode, it will help free up this sphere in a couple of turns. After completing each level, you'll see a Screetch on the screen and your points. These Screetches are also available to view in the Trophies section of the game, so you can also see your progress. Can you get them all? The game can save high scores, and even has Facebook implementation to compare your scores with your Facebook buddies (what doesn't have Facebook integration nowadays?). Did you have to do something and can't complete your game? Don't worry, if you pause the game and come back to it later, you can pick up right where you last left off. It's a great feature to save you from those hair-pulling moments where you realize you wasted all that time for nothing. If you enjoy logic or puzzle games, then this is definitely a must buy. Not to mention that the graphics are stunning and great to look at. It may not be optimized for the iPhone 4 Retina display, but I think it still looked amazing on my phone. If you like great games, then do yourself a favor and pick up The Screetch. And no, the developers won't tell you what's going on with The Screetch, or what it really is. Just enjoy it!
