Overview
You've fought back the knights in Knight's Onrush, and now it's time to become the Knight in Knight's Rush. The game is a sequel to the lite version of Knight's Onrush known as A Quest of Knight's Onrush where it's a 2D side scrolling beat 'em up rather than castle defense. We gave you a couple sneak peeks way back when, and now it's time for the full review to find out if it lives up to its brethren.
Features
You get to be one of three heroes slicing your way through over 50 types of enemies, across eight deluxe environments. The heart of the game is the campaign mode which has over 40 levels, and eight boss battles. Also included is an endless and super endless mode with super endless a more action packed version of endless, and you can compare your scores and earn achievements via Crystal.
The Good
If you like action you've come to the right place because there is more action packed into Knight's Rush than any iPhone game to date. The game is made so anyone can pick it up, and start enjoying it right away, and then adds subtle complexities as you go enabling a perfect progression in difficulty for all players. The game offers more of a 2.5D perspective as you can move laterally, and not just horizontally which adds more potential action elements.
You will reach points where you will be amazed there can be so many animations on screen at once, and they all run without a hitch. Luckily the game does have points to take a little breather, and replenish some health, and earn some xp. You can level up your character multiple ways adding various attributes to improve your chances in battle.
As you improve your character you earn special abilities and spells which change up the gameplay nicely so it isn't just button mashing. With all the different enemy types there are plenty of different strategies to use, and you'll also have to incorporate some of the items in the various environments. There are many beat 'em up style games in the App Store, but none compare to Knight's Rush.
Be warned that once you start the campaign you'll want to finish it more than you have for most other games you've played. It will take a considerable amount of time with very developed worlds to get through, and epic boss battles to overcome. The two endless modes are wonderful as well, and with Crystal connectivity Knight's Rush can be the only game on your iPhone, and you'll have more than enough.
The cartoon artwork is simply exquisite, and it looks amazing on any idevice screen. The animations of all the various attacks, explosions, and mayhem are great and it will definitely bring a smile to your face. Then there is the glorious soundtrack that fits the epic adventure theme perfectly.
The Bad
There really isn't much to not like about this game. It is well designed in every regard so anything in this area is just trying to find a problem rather than having real problems. The game crashed when there was a push notification, and the game sometimes doesn't work with fast app switching though most of the time it does.
The Verdict
Knight's Rush has been a long time coming, and it was well worth the wait. It's the best action game by far, and right up there with the very best games you can get for the platform. If you don't pick up this game you should never pick up another game again because it's really that enjoyable for anyone.
Knight's Rush is an absolute must for $2.99 it is a great game that is easily worth paying double digits for. It provides some of the most fun you can have on any platform, and luckily for idevice owners it's made extremely well for this platform. This is really as close as a game has come to perfection so far in the App Store, please enjoy.
