Slide That Crazy Pixel Art Block To The Exit On Your iPad In Blocks Mania HD
August 7, 2010
Spokko has just released an iPad-optimized version of their pixel art puzzle game, Blocks Mania. Blocks Mania HD joins Tiki Totems HD as the second title in the indie developer's ever-growing list of iPad apps.
Blocks Mania HD utilizes the same block sliding, puzzle solving formula as the iPhone version it is based off of, while expanding the playing field to better utilize the iPad's larger screen. The concept of the game is simple, but each level becomes progressively more challenging, forcing you to use your noggin more than you probably have in the past few weeks.
Each of the 80 included puzzles requires you to get your crazy little block from its starting point to the exit, which is marked with a large X. The idea is to accomplish this in as few moves as possible, while also gathering all of the stars in the level, so you may have to complete a puzzle more than once to receive a perfect 100 percent rating. By completing 50 percent of the puzzles in each puzzle pack, you will unlock the next one.
Sliding the block is done by simply sliding your finger in the direction you want it to go. The block absolutely must run into a box or an item to stop its progress or change its direction, otherwise it will fly off the screen and you will have to start over. The game contains 10 different environmental objects that will either aid or hurt you in your quest to conquer each puzzle. The game also features OpenFeint integration to provide achievements and online leaderboards.
Blocks Mania HD is now available in the App Store for $4.99. It features 20 more levels than either iPhone version of the game, so even if you have solved every last puzzle in those, there is still more fun to be had in the iPad version.
Don't forget, the slimmed down version of Blocks Mania for iPhone is available for free today and features 20 free unlockable levels. Check it out in today's Apps Gone Free.
