Become The Ultimate Line Cook By Applying Sauces At A Frantic Pace In Plates!

August 16, 2010
Plates! is Big Mouse Media's follow-up to their hit iPhone memory game, White Lines.  The game has you putting the finishing touches on plates of food as they whiz by on conveyor belts.  The question is, are your fingers fast enough? Plates! is one of those casual games that's absolutely perfect for a quick play session during a short moment of down time.  It's easy to get the hang of, yet offers challenging and subtly unique gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. In Plates!, three conveyor belts carry plates of food on and off of your screen.  As the plates go by, you must squirt one of four different sauces on top of the corresponding plates.  Steak sauce goes onto the steaks, blueberry syrup on pancakes, ketchup on hot dogs and oil on salad.  The four sauces are located in each corner of the screen and are color coded. To apply a sauce to a plate, simply tap it to highlight it, and then tap the plate of food of which it goes on.  If multiple plates of food require the same sauce, you can just keep on tapping those plates; there is no need to keep picking the same sauce.  If, however, you tap the wrong plate, it will smash.  Do so five times or have five plates leave the screen without a sauce and the game will be over. Completing three-like plates without switching sauces will net you some bonus points, so during the slower early stages of the game you can plan your taps accordingly.  It's much more difficult to do so later on in the game since the speed quickly ramps up.  Other challenges appear later on as well, such as combo plates, which require you to put two sauces on a plate instead of one, and explosives that resemble hot dogs, which when tapped will end the game instantly. Plates! thoroughly succeeds as a great little time waster that features frantic and addictive gameplay, and will have you coming back for more whenever time allows.  It's not meant for long play sessions, unless you feel like competing with a friend via OpenFeint leaderboards to see who has the best reflexes. Plates! is now available in the App Store for $.99.
