Distinctive Drops The Puck On Hockey Nations 2010 HD For iPad
September 20, 2010
Distinctive Developments has released an iPad-optimized version of their hit hockey game, Hockey Nations 2010, just in time for the NHL preseason.
Hockey Nations 2010 HD allows you to strap on your virtual skates and take control of 14 of the world's toughest teams. The game includes an expansive set of modes, like exhibition, practice, shoot-out, and league play, while also allowing you to compete head-to-head against a friend on the same device. As you progress through the game, you will be able to earn achievements based on your skills. And, for those who want an even more arcade-like experience, you can turn off icing and offsides in the options menu.
An on-screen joystick and three action buttons allow you to pass, check, and shoot your way to victory, just like the iPhone version. You are required to gain possession of the puck in face-offs by quickly and accurately tapping on the puck when the time is right. The same general system is used in shoot-out mode when you take control of the goalie, allowing you to always be in on the action.
The only real complaint I have regarding the game is that the controls aren't customizable, as they are always stuck in the very lower corners of the screen. This can make long games (12 minutes) rather uncomfortable at times. It would be nice to be able to slide them up to a more wrist-friendly position. Also, the game will most likely appeal to arcade fans since the players' speed is relatively quick. It's not a knock on the game necessarily, just a clarification.
Hockey Nations 2010 HD is now available in the App Store for $2.99, only a dollar more than its iPhone counterpart.
