Who Needs Fingers? Control Your iDevice With Your Mind!
September 8, 2010
Let's face it: the iPhone/iPod touch would work a lot better if we didn't have to actually use our fingers to run apps! Of course I'm joking, but apparently one entrepreneur feels that mind control is where Apple devices are headed (pun intended).
The XWave is an external device that is supposed to control Apple iDevices just by using your mind. The company claims that the $149 device (which debuts in November) will, for example, allow you to control objects in games, by just thinking!
In addition to working on the iPhone/iPod touch, its creators claim the XWave will also work with the iPad.
According to the company's website, XWave:
XWave, powered by NeuroSky eSense patented technologies, senses the faintest electrical impulses transmitted through your skull to the surface of your forehead and converts these analog signals into digital. With XWave, you will be able to detect attention and meditation levels, as well as train your mind to control things. Objects in a game can be controlled, lights in your living room can change color depending on your mood; the possibilities are limited to only the power of your imagination.I typically shy away from anything that comes with a warning, as this one does. The XWave site states that "this device is for entertainment purposes and is not intended for medical use." Therefore, I'm not sure whether or not this thing works, or is just some hoax from someone trying to make a few dollars. Still, for a limited time, the XWave is available to pre-order for $50 off its full $149 list price! Imagine killingĀ Zombies, with your brain! What do you think? Is this device for real? Is it something you'd buy? Let us know in the comments below.
