Fruit Ninja Gains Online Multiplayer Through Game Center
September 17, 2010
Halfbrick Studios' über popular fruit slicing game, Fruit Ninja, has been updated to version 1.4, and with it comes online multiplayer through Apple's recently launched Game Center.
Accessing Fruit Ninja's online multiplayer mode is extremely easy, and starting a game takes mere moments. First, make sure you are logged into Game Center. Then just slice New Game. Here you will find the Multiplayer mode that, when sliced, will bring you into a Game Center lobby that will allow you to find a random person to play with, or allow you to invite one of your Game Center friends. It will take a few seconds for you and your friend to sync up, so be patient. When ready, hit Play Now. That's it, it's fruit slicing time.
Online multiplayer games consist of slicing your own fruit (blue) while avoiding your opponent's fruit (red). Slicing your own fruit will net you one point, while slicing an opponent's fruit will cause you to lose three points. White highlighted fruits will also fly across the screen, and these are fair game for both players and will award three points. Combos are still applicable in online multiplayer mode, so you must be quick and accurate with your slices. You have one minute to get more points than your foe.
Fruit Ninja's new multiplayer mode requires iOS 4.1 with Game Center. Compatible devices are iPhone 3GS and above, and iPod Touch 2G and above.
Right now Fruit Ninja simply utilizes Game Center to connect two players. It doesn't include achievements, leaderboards, or any other fancy features, but you can rest assured they will be making their way into the game in the near future. Also, Halfbrick has revealed that the secret banana mode is nearing completion and should be available in the next update.
Fruit Ninja is available in the App Store for $.99. Anyone looking to play a game or two can send me an invite via Game Center. My username is, as always, dubbalubagis.
