Activision Hits All The Wrong Notes With Guitar Hero's Game Center Update
September 22, 2010
There is nothing more exciting in the iOS gaming world right now than seeing one of your favorite games get updated with Game Center support. On the flip side, there is nothing more disappointing than having that promised Game Center support show up totally broken, as is the case with Guitar Hero.
Activision touts the Guitar Hero v1.2 update as having Game Center support, but it most certainly does not. The moment you launch the game you get a pop-up (pictured above) that simply states "This game is not recognized by Game Center." The game also does not show up in Game Center itself.
Not only is the Game Center portion of the game broken, but now players are unable to access the online store to purchase music as well. Restarting the game doesn't remedy the issue, and the same goes for restarting the device, so the problem appears to be with the coding. According to App Store user reviews, I am not the only one having this issue either, so if you need access to the online store, steer clear of this update and wait for the fix.
If you don't need the online store, however, the update does bring a single worthy and working feature: multitasking. Now you can exit the app at any time and pick up right where you left off, even during a song.
Hopefully Activision with the help of Apple's reviewers can get a fix through the store relatively quickly, because I am sure, like me, the rest of you are itching to see just what kind of Game Center support Guitar Hero was supposed to include. We will let you know as soon as we find out more, or if another, actually working update magically appears.
