iPad Wine Lists Lead To More Sales

September 16, 2010
In July, we reported on the new trend of restaurants putting their wine lists on the iPad. Now, it looks like by doing so, restaurants are seeing an increase in their overall sales. According to Cult of Mac, one top Atlanta restaurant is reporting increased sales, six weeks after releasing its own iPad wine list. Bones offers a 1,350 label wine list served on an iPad, which lists descriptions and ratings. In the first two weeks the list was available, sales were up 11 percent per diner compared to the previous three weeks. Its owners have concluded that they have the iPad to thank for the better sales since nothing else at the establishment has changed. Not only have the restaurant's overall sales increased, but the wines purchased have been more expensive. “I felt like they had given me the answer sheet to the test,” said Bradley D. Kendall, a Bone’s regular who recently used the iPad to select a 2005 Corté Riva cabernet franc for $102, about 25 percent beyond his usual range. According to the report, interactive wine lists are not new. However, the iPad has sparked a heady revival of the concept.
