September 29, 2010
Today's list includes a monstrous castle defense game, a couple of puzzle games, ESPN's flagship sports tracking app for iPad, and much more. Disclaimer: All prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. iPhone: Rescue Pine ($1.99 -> Free): A physics-based puzzle game where you need to help Pine the porcupine make his way down to his father without touching the ground.  You are able to do so by tapping to remove obstacles in his way.  The game includes 60 puzzles, fluid physics, and OpenFeint integration. Rescue Pine is available for free today only (9/29). It has a four-and-a-half-star rating, and a total of five ratings. Monster Mayhem ($1.99 -> Free): A castle defense game that requires you to defend the gate from 20 different monsters and five boss characters.  You will be armed with a wide variety of weapons, each of which can be upgraded as you progress through the game.  It features rich and colorful graphics, intuitive controls, stat tracking, and Crystal integration. Monster Mayhem is available for free for a limited time. It has a four-star rating, and a total of 198 ratings. My Old Alarm Clock ($1.99 -> Free): An app that attempts to mimic those old school ticking alarm clocks.  You can choose from a variety of clocks with day and night backgrounds, dim and brighten the screen with an up or down swipe, change the tick-tocking volume, and more. My Old Alarm Clock is available for free today only (9/29). It has a three-star rating, and a total of 19 ratings. GameTrac ($4.99 -> Free): Allows you to track stats for any and every activity you can imagine. You can track stats for one of the included games by first creating a personal profile, or you can track stats for your non-included game by tapping the add game button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen and filling in the necessary fields. If you are a parent with a child who participates in sports, this is the perfect tool for you. GameTrac is available for free today only (9/29). It has a four-and-a-half-star rating, and a total of 10 ratings. Hellkid: Hook & Jump ($.99 -> Free): A side-scrolling running game that’s basically a mash-up of Hook Champ and Canabalt. In the game your character runs automatically, and you must tap to jump and hold to hook.  The game features multiple playable characters, online multiplayer, tons of achievements, an item shop, and loads of levels. Hellkid is available for free today only (9/29). It has a four-star rating, and a total of 56 ratings. Universal: DropZap ($.99 -> Free): A puzzle game that mashes together a few other genres as well.  Tap and drag your finger across the screen to select a column to drop your block in.  When a block lands, it will fire lasers and shrink the blocks below it and on each side of it.  Large blocks will shrink one size, and the smallest block will disappear, possibly creating a massive chain reaction.  Keep dropping blocks until you can’t drop anymore.  The game features five modes of play, including split-screen multiplayer, and global leaderboards. DropZap is available for free for a limited time. It has a three-and-a-half-star rating, and a total of 33 ratings. iPad only: ScoreCenter XL ($4.99 -> Free): Helps you keep track of your favorite teams from hundreds of global leagues and sports.  Check live scores, video highlights, play-by-play, stats, standings, and so much more. Also, your favorite teams can be added to the home page so you don't have to go digging around just to see if they are winning. ScoreCenter XL appears to have gone free permanently. It has a three-star rating, and a total of 395 ratings. Developers: If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
