iTunes Music In The Cloud Arrives In The UK
September 6, 2010
Despite the hype that preceded and followed last week's Apple "special event," one important announcement was never made. And that was Apple's long-rumored "music in the cloud" service. Luckily, for our UK readers anyway, someone has beaten Apple in this regard. PC World has launched its own cloud-based music service for Apple device owners.
Through a partnership with Livedrive, the service arrives with a starting price of just £39.99 ($61) per year and includes 100GB of online music, video and image storing space from which you can stream your content.
The service is currently being advertised through Tech Guys, which is part of DSG International. PC World is also part of DSG.
Once the service is purchased, customers simply install the software on their PC or Mac. From there, you can stream the content to your iPhone/iPod touch or iPad. The software automatically scans your iTunes directory and will upload new files as they become available.
Apple should definitely take a clue from PC World and provide everyone with a similar service. In the interim, here is one alternative, at least for some iTunes users.
If any of our UK readers have used this service, please let us know. Please leave your comments below.
