QuickAdvice: Stash Away Media And Documents With Stash Pro on iPhone and iPad

Stash Pro: Private Media, Documents, and Web Browsing by Hedonic Software icon

Stash Pro: Private Media, Documents, and Web Browsing ($3.99) by Hedonic Software is an app that allows private media, documents, and web browsing.

If you're in the market for a private media and document app, then Stash Pro is the way to go. Videos, photos, and documents can all be stored away safely in the app.

Media has to be entered into the app via iTunes File Sharing though, but once you get past that, you're golden. If you're worried about someone gaining access to all these files, a passcode can be set so that it's required on login. There's also options for Private or Public accounts. Private is self-explanatory, but Public accounts will turn into your secret stash with a 'secret gesture.'

The app will display folders for Library, Recent Imports [in the last 60 minutes], Documents, Videos, and Images. You can create new folders and even Smart Folders as well, which will automatically organize media by criteria you set.

Photos and videos from the device camera roll can be stored and organized in Stash Pro. This is extremely useful if you have a lot of photos on the iPhone or iPad Camera Roll and want to be able to organize them via the Smart Folders.

Want to play your videos? Stash Pro lets you do that easily. There's also extra buttons such as rewinding 10 seconds or even playing the video at half speed or double speed. You can also rate the video (ratings help with creating smart folders) and take a screen capture of the video playing [if you don't want to hit the home + power buttons].

Photos can be viewed like they normally are in the regular Camera Roll, complete with slideshows and all that good stuff. Documents are read-only, but you can view all kinds of readable documents, such as .txt, .doc, and iWork files, for example. If you're using it on an iPad, you'll get the bonus to open a document in another application installed on your device.

All files can be tagged with keywords, which will help make searching for something much easier and faster. Searching is done as you type, so results will pop up fast.

There is a private in-app browser as well that adds some bonus perks: along with images, the app will be able to download iOS-compatible videos, documents, and .zip files to your Stash library. The browser can also be forced for non-mobile sites as well as faking desktop user agents (disguise it as Firefox, for example). You get an option to automatically clear the browser history and cookies upon exit of the app (find it in the settings).

If you want to entertain yourself, you can view all of your media with the Slideshow button. This will begin playing or showing everything that is in your library. Default setting is in order of what it's sorted by, but there's a shuffle option in the settings.

The biggest thing about the app is the level of privacy. There's a nice little feature called "Boss Button" that will bring up a fully interactive Google map if you tap anywhere on the screen with three fingers. This is for those times when you can't let prying eyes see what you're up to [insert witty joke here]. Tap the screen again with three fingers to go back.

If you are completely paranoid, then you can even disable iTunes backups of the data in Stash Pro. Doing this will also get you faster sync times, if that means anything to you. The app icon is 'non-descript' and only shows up as "StP" when installed, which won't draw any attention to it [but since you're reading this now, you will know what the icon and "StP" means on someone else's iDevice]. Don't forget about the passcode and private and public accounts I mentioned earlier!

If you're looking for a private media browser, then you can't really go wrong with Stash Pro. For $4, it can store almost any file you need [to hide], has a private web browser where you can snag files from and doubles as a photo organizer. It's also a universal app, which sweetens the deal.

The only downside is you have to deal with that tedious iTunes File Sharing method. Having a wireless syncing method would be nice, so I hope the developers consider that.

Yes, actually this app can be used for more than just your secret stash of porn.
