Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD ($9.99) by Rockstar Games Can you survive in Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars now on the iPad? You better be ready to complete missions including boosting cars, killing rival gang members, avoiding the cops, and dealing drugs, now on the large iPad screen.

If you’ve ever played Grand Theft Auto you know what to expect of Chinatown Wars, especially if you’re a fan of the top down older versions. The missions require you to follow very strict guidelines, so any of the open world feel is lost until you get hours into the game. With that said there are still hours and hours to play this game, and the long story, challenging missions, and overall GTA experience will keep you coming back.

Now the game isn’t the easiest to control no matter what you’re doing. When you’re driving there are two directional buttons that leaves you smashing into everything. When shooting at anything you can’t be too precise as the game auto targets, and even moving between menus is quite tedious with multiple taps.

The game looks amazing on the iPad, and may be the best looking GTA title off the console. That the game doesn’t offer a bigger perspective than the iPhone version is really disappointing as there is so much more that could be seen at once to really help the gameplay. All the details and rendering are maxed out though, so at least the same perspective looks that much better.

The iPhone and iPad version are both priced at $9.99, and if you ever even remotely were interested in GTA then pick the version for your favorite device, and truly experience the best of on the go GTA. The game definitely doesn’t warrant being picked up on both devices as the differences are few and far between.
