Rapid Review: Yahtzee HD - Roll Baby Roll
YAHTZEE™ HD ($4.99) It's time to shake rattle and roll the dice on your iPad while going for Yahtzee. EA's digital version of the classic game Yahtzee Adventures has gone from the iPhone to the iPad. The game has a brand new interface to take advantage of the extra screen real estate.
The screen has a roll area, and the various scoring options both on screen at once. The game also features a new dice rolling mechanic so you move your finger up and down the dice cup to shake up to dice, and roll them. Then there are some dice rolling physics which combined with the shaking makes the game feel more random as compared to tapping, and having the computer generate your dice roll.
The iPad version features the same adventure mode which is a lot of fun if you're playing it for the first time. You can also play with others by passing around the iPad, and you can play the various Yahtzee styles including classic, rainbow, and battle. The entire game is very well designed, and takes full advantage of the size of the iPad.
The entire game uses Facebook connect for online features, and it's extremely stripped down, and just a hassle compared to actual online social platforms. This is without a doubt the best Yahtzee experience on the iPad highlighted by the interactive shaking, and physics of the dice. The full featured adventure mode will keep you coming back for more as it's completely engaging with the ability to progress to a finite conclusion.
Yahtzee HD is a should buy for $4.99 if you ever want to play Yahtzee on your iPad. Also it's nice to see a complete redesign for the iPad to take full advantage of the device.
