Review: GravBot - Switching It Up

September 30, 2010
Overview You control gravity to determine what way is up to help GravBot, the little TV with a wheel, through the puzzle platform levels. The game isn’t much on moving the characters as it is switching gravity to progress. The Game is all about collecting every battery in a level, and it’s from the makers of the Bounce On series. Features The game includes 12 levels for completely free, and then there are two additional 20 level packs for $0.99 each. In other words you get 52 levels for $1.99, but everyone gets to try the game to see if it’s right for them. Plus+ is included for online high scores and achievements, and every level is scored based on the number of times you switch gravity. The Good The game has a delicate balance of challenge and fun so you’re never overwhelmed by difficulty, and it’s plenty enjoyable to beat the rather complex levels. The game features a simple mechanic of just tapping the arrow direction to make that way the new up. This is the kind of game where you look at the whole level, and try to figure out the best way forward before making one move. Each level introduces new elements to deal with including switches, lasers, and enemies. If you buy all the levels there is a load to do in the game with 52 levels with the inclusion of Plus+. You will want to replay levels to try to do it in a fewer number of gravity shifts. The game has a great art style with 2.5D graphics from GravBot rolling about, and all the intricacies in the level design. GravBot really does have some personality for being such a simple character, and it’s great to see the screen rotate on a gravity shift. There are multiple soundtracks to listen to coupled with the beeps and boops of GravBot. The Bad The game doesn't really have any faults, and the best part is that you can put it to the test yourself for free. The Verdict GravBot is puzzle platforming at it’s finest with plenty of challenge while providing an enjoyable time figuring out the puzzle aspects. The game has a great style, and is designed very well overall. For $1.99 when purchasing both level packs GravBot is a should buy, and even higher for puzzle platformer fans. Be sure to download it for free.
