Go Beyond Ynth In FDG's New Puzzle Platformer For iPhone And iPad
September 16, 2010
Beyond Ynth, the year in the making sequel to the unique puzzle platformer, Ynth, has finally hit the App Store.
Beyond Ynth follows the story of Kribl, a small bug on a journey to bring light back to his kingdom by collecting dazzling diamonds, which were stolen by the Four Dark Spiders of the Apocalypse.
In the game, you are tasked with controlling Kribl by utilizing four on-screen buttons, all of which are within easy reach. You must make your way from one side of the level to the other, tipping over, sliding, and jumping on boxes in order to reach the diamonds and the end of the level. The path isn't always the most obvious or easy to traverse, which is where the puzzle elements come into play. As if the puzzles weren't difficult enough, you also must avoid getting squished, scorched, burnt, and frozen on your journey through the four environments.
Although there are only four buttons to tap, the level of gameplay complexity is relatively high. The directional buttons serve multiple purposes, such as moving Kribl, tipping the boxes, rolling acorns, and knocking items down from above. Also, some of the puzzles really require you to think about what you are doing well before you do it, because if you die, you must start all over. But don't worry, you aren't limited in time or lives, so you can go at your own pace.
Beyond Ynth for iPhone and Beyond Ynth HD for iPad are now available in the App Store. For those that are on the fence, expect a full review in the future.
