Apple Considering Nitride Coatings For Scratch Proof Devices

October 29, 2010
The U.S. Patent Office received another visit from Apple this week. As reported by AppleInsider, Apple recently submitted an application for "Nitriding Stainless Steel for Consumer Electronic Products." The application summarizes Apple's idea of creating a scratch proof surface on a device made of stainless steel. Leave it to Apple to continuously think of improvements for their products. The nitride coating that Apple is trying to patent is colorless, so Apple can maintain their signature stainless steel backings. The only difference between this future version and previous versions is that the future versions, won't have any scratches. The possibility of scratch proof devices is a welcome addition and we're hoping Apple can pull this off. How is your iDevice doing? Covered in scratches already?
