Capcom To Bring Dead Rising To iPhone Later This Year

October 5, 2010
Fans of zombie survival games, rejoice! Capcom's massively successful zombie survival series, Dead Rising, will be making its way to the iPhone and iPod touch later this year. According to IGN, Dead Rising for iPhone will be similar to the original game in the series, except it will be slimmed down a bit. You will still play as Frank West, a photojournalist trapped in a shopping mall overrun by zombies, and you will still be required to run around the mall and find weapons of any kind -- flower pots, golf clubs, knives, guns, etc. -- in order to uncover the mystery behind the sudden infection. What you won't be able to do, however, is battle bosses, drive vehicles, take photos, or change your wardrobe.  There will still be some civilian escort elements, but instead of actually protecting an escort, you will simply be required to make it from one point of the mall to the other. As for controls, there will be a single left joystick that will control all of Frank's movements, a single attack button, and another button that will appear when you are able to pick up a new weapon, need to get out of danger, throw a weapon, or what have you. Finally, since the game has been built from the ground up for iOS, there will be some new social elements in place.  If you die in the game, you can choose to send out a rescue call to your Twitter or Facebook feeds. If someone is kind enough to answer the call and uses the unique password in their game within a specific amount of time, you will respawn without a penalty.  If no one answers the call, you will be sent back to your last save point and incur a PP penalty.  You can completely avoid this portion of the game and just accept the penalty to save time if you wish. Other things to note from IGN's hands-on: There are a limited number of zombies on-screen at once right now, but Capcom is looking to boost that number. Controlling Frank with a single joystick could end up being difficult.  Graphics aren't too bad, but there are some obvious issues, which can be expected for a title that's still about two months out. Dead Rising Mobile, as it's being called, is scheduled to hit the App Store this holiday season.  We will keep you updated as we learn more. [Images via IGN]
