In The Code: FaceTime To Have Multi-Chat Feature

October 17, 2010
Apple's FaceTime is in its infancy. For now, it can only be used via Wi-Fi. And, of course, both users need to have an iPhone 4 or iPod touch (4G). But, FaceTime could soon be evolving to give us more. The folks at Multi-touch Fans have uncovered some FaceTime code that seems to show that multi-chat is coming. They say:
One of our forum members, 42395_skyline, has found an interesting key in FaceTime’s code. From the looks of it, future updates to FaceTime may enable multiparty conference calls with 3 or more people. This would work extremely well on the iPad’s large screen, and would give Apple the edge over competing business-centric tablets (like BlackBerry’s Playbook) for corporate use. Skype also recently updated their Windows application to support group chat for up to 5 people, so matching this would be the logical next step for Apple.
This news isn't surprising. After all, Apple's own iChat application allows for multiple user video chat. Hopefully, this will arrive soon.
