Corel Paint It! Show Transforms Your Photos Into Works Of Art Right Before Your Eyes

October 7, 2010
Corel, the Canadian desktop software company best known for titles like CorelDRAW, WinZIP, Bryce, and many more, have released their first iPad app into the App Store, Corel Paint it! Show, which is able to take your photos and turn them into works of art right before your eyes. Unlike most photo effects apps, Corel Paint it! Show isn't just about the end result, it's also about seeing the process in action.  The app allows you to import as many photos as you want to be included in your unique slideshow directly from your iPad's library or from your Facebook account. Then, just start the slideshow and watch the magic happen. Corel Paint it! Show will randomly choose one of the five included painting effects by default, or you can choose to have one of the effects applied to all of your photos.  The five effects are:
  • Oil: Applies a combination of short dabs and longer brushstrokes to produce the color and texture of oil paint.
  • Impressionist: Applies short and very visible brushstrokes to create the illusion of movement and light.
  • Modern: Applies bold brushstrokes and adds vibrance to colors to produce an abstract reinterpretation of a photo.
  • Pen and Ink: Applies sketchy strokes with a pen and black ink that appear drawn by hand.
  • Illustration: Applies a wide variety of brushstrokes to produce an illustration-style painting.
Newly rendered photos can be saved to your Camera Roll at any time during the process, uploaded to Facebook, or shared via email. If you just aren't feeling the effects or simply want to show off photos from your latest vacation, you can choose to go effects-less.  You can also choose music from your own library to be played in the background to set the mood. The effects look good, and seeing the process in action adds another layer to the excitement, but there are a couple of issues.  The application of the effects can not be sped up, so if you are impatient and just want to see the end result, you can't.  The application of the effects themselves is fairly smooth, but the app will slow down to a crawl at times when accessing menus, and even crash on occasion. Still, if you are looking for a unique way to show off some of your favorite photos, Corel Paint it! Show is worth a look, especially for only $.99.
