Dev-Team Posts PwnageTool For iOS 4.1 Video Teaser, Says Apple TV Is Next
October 15, 2010
Now that we have a simple jailbreak tool for the latest iOS version on both Windows and Mac, it's definitely time for some heavier artillery.
While Greenp0ison and Limera1n can already jailbreak your recent iDevices, they still require that you update to iOS 4.1 the traditional way. Unfortunately, updating your iPhone using Apple's firmware will also update your iPhone's baseband. You know, that little piece of firmware that controls the phone in the iPhone. The problem is: the latest baseband is currently not unlockable. So, if you update, you might lose your ability to unlock your iPhone.
Not for long though. Eminent Dev-Team member, Musclenerd, posted a video preview today on Twitter. The demo is of a new version of PwnageTool that is compatible with iOS 4.1. For those of you who don't know it, PwnageTool allows you to create custom iOS firmware that you can install on your iDevice through iTunes, without updating your baseband. This will allow you to still unlock your iPhone. Also, it makes your iDevice directly jailbroken.
We don't have a firm ETA yet, but if you consider they're teasing us with it already, it's probably right around the corner. Check it out:
Furthermore, Musclenerd added that once this gets done, he's going after the Apple TV. What is he planning for it? We don't know, but we'll keep you posted.
