GroupMe Gets An App To Manage Your Own SMS Chat Rooms
October 21, 2010
Wouldn't it be easier to send one SMS that would reach all of the people you want, instead of copying a message and sending it one at a time to everyone in your group?
The developers at GroupMe must have heard all of the collective thoughts going on in SMS and created an app that can send SMS/text messages to everyone in your particular group, sort of like an SMS private chat room.
With GroupMe, your group is assigned a unique phone number that is only accessible to the members you specify. Then, when an SMS is sent to the number, everyone who is listed in the group will receive the message. Talk about a time saver. And if someone in your group would rather conduct a conference call, the unique number given to your group will connect everyone to the call. The only requirement to download this free app is the ability to send and receive text messages. To use the GroupMe service doesn't cost, it's a free service. However, if your carrier charges your to send or receive SMS/text messages, you are bound to the conditions of your contract.
