iPhone And iPad Apps Gone Free: Duke Nukem 3D, Sketch Nation Shooter, Bloomy, And More

October 2, 2010
Today's list includes a classic FPS, a highly customizable vertical shooter, a Magic the Gathering trading card game database app for iPad, and much more. Disclaimer: All prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. iPhone: Duke Nukem 3D ($2.99 -> Free): A mobile version of the classic 1996 FPS. It features the same brash Duke that we have come to know and love, along with the same classic weapons and enemies.  It apparently contains over 20 hours of gameplay, and a customizable control scheme.  It's Duke, just download it. Duke Nukem 3D is available for free today only (10/2).  It has a three-star rating, and a total of 2,558 ratings. Sketch Nation Shooter ($.99 -> Free): Allows you to create and play your very own vertical shooter.  Just start drawing your main ship, enemies, boss, and even a level if you wish, and then take a picture of them and start playing.  You can customize more than just the artwork, as there are many other gameplay options.  If you can't draw, there are six included art packs to help you out. Sketch Nation Shooter is available for free today only (10/2). It has a three-and-a-half-star rating, and a total of 188 ratings. Run Dot Run ($.99 -> Free): A very simple yet entertaining game where you must guide a yellow dot to the red section.  To do so, you must tap on the left side of the screen to turn your dot left, and the right side to turn right.  There are a total of 56 levels, can you beat them all? Run Dot Run is available for free for a limited time. It has a three-star rating, and a total of 60 ratings. Cricket T20 Fever ($4.99 -> Free): A 3D game of cricket that features a variety of modes including tournaments, ODIs, T20 matches, and a powerplay-style match.  It also features six venues, eight teams to choose from, Scroreloop integration, and much more. Cricket T20 Fever is available for free through the weekend. It has a three-and-a-half-star rating, and a total of 26 ratings. Scarabeus - Pearl of Nile ($.99 -> Free): A puzzle game that requires you to collect four balls of the same color in the scarab dials.  Balls roll in from the top of the screen and land in scarab dials.  You must spin the dials by tapping them, and then launch the balls by swiping in order to keep the train moving.  Each level features multiple dials, so moving balls from one to the next is required to win.  The game features 40 levels that become more challenging as you progress, the ability to share scores via Facebook or Twitter, and OpenFeint integration. Scarabeus is available for free through the weekend. It has a three-star rating, and a total of 70 ratings. Bloomy ($.99 -> Free): A flowery match-3 game where you race against the clock to achieve a specific number of matches.  The game features local and online multiplayer with a ranking system to keep you coming back for more. Bloomy is available for free for a limited time. It has a four-star rating, and a total of 12 ratings. iPad only: MTG Magic the Gathering Trading Card Game Database ($.99 -> Free): The perfect app for any Magic the Gathering TCG fan.  Browse through a large database of card sets, or search by name, description, expansion, rarity, colors, artist, and more.  Each card can be tapped on, which displays the card itself, the type, color, rarity, set, description, and flavor text.  It also features an offline mode. MTG is available for free today only (10/2). It has a four-star rating, and a total of eight ratings.
