Jobs: Two New MacBook Air Models Starting at $999

October 20, 2010
Calling it the “next generation of MacBooks,” Apple just announced the new MacBook Air. Available beginning today, it will be available in two sizes. An 11-inch model starts at $999, while its larger brother, a 13-inch model starts at $1299. For the first time, the MacBook Air has all-flash storage, meaning hard drives are a thing of the past. Similar to what you have on your iPod, iPhone or iPad, flash storage offers reliability, speed and efficiency. Best of all: with its all-flash storage, the MacBook Air is able to remain in standby mode for up to 30 days. This means the MacBook Air can startup in an instant. Again, similar to Apple’s iPhone/iPod touch and iPad devices. Apple also claims the new MacBook Air will run for between 5 to 7 hours between charges. You’ll get up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge on the 11-inch model and up to 7 hours on the 13-inch model. Other features include:
  • A new display which measures a mere 0.19 inches thick.
  • A FaceTime Camera, which allows you to see and talk to others using the new FaceTime for Mac application, currently in beta.
