QuickAdvice: Look At Time In A Whole New Way With Synergy

Synergy Alarm Clock Pro ($0.99) by f-PrimeStudios is a new take on the traditional clock app for your iPhone.

When you launch the app, instead of being that traditional digital or analog clock formal, Synergy presents to you the time in a rotating, 3-ring format. The hour is the inner most ring, the minutes are the middle ring, and the seconds are on the outer ring. With each passing second, minute, or hour, the numbers will rotate clockwise.

The date will be displayed at the top and there is customizable text that can be displayed at the bottom, as well as showing you whether it's a.m. or p.m. The menu allows you to change the theme color with six pre-made ones already included or you can create your own customized palette. When customizing a theme, you choose background color and text color, and even control how much of a glow effect there is.

Other settings for the app include controlling when the device should auto-lock when on both battery power and plugged in the charger. Settings will also let you create the custom text, which ends up being easy you see displayed beneath the time. Showing the date is toggles here as well, along with the toggle for a 24-hour clock.

Synergy allows alarms, but I have found a pretty big glitch currently - whenever I try yo make an alarm, the actual alarm ends up to be two hours earlier than what I'm trying to assign. I'm not entirely sure what the cause of this is, but it is a problem that should be addressed.

Alarms can be set to repeat on certain days, and the app gives you a lot of choices as far as what ringtone to pick. If you like to wake up to your iPod music though, don't worry! You can add in your iPod songs to wake you up when the alarm goes off.

Alarms can have both the sound and vibrate go off at the same time, and there are snooze options to help you get those few more minutes of precious sleep.

All of this alarm stuff is nice, but it would help if the alarm can be set accordingly without needing to be "two hours ahead" to go off at the meant time. If anyone knows a fix to this, please share.

Overall, if you want a unique looking clock on your iPhone that you want to show off or look at as you sleep, then this is definitely one to check out. But until I can figure out why the alarm isn't acting as it should, I am going to have to knock it down a bit unless there's a manual fix I need to do. Perhaps you may have better luck than me.

It would also be nice to see some future additions in the app in updates, with informational stuff like weather, news, or maybe even social integration with Facebook and Twitter or something along those lines. All it does right now is give you the time and alarms - it would be nice to pack some other features into the already nice package.

The uniqueness of this clock makes it worth checking out though, at the very least.

UPDATE: The alarm bug scroller issue will be fixed in the next update. The developers contacted me about this, so don't worry!

Definitely check this out!
