Review: Robin Hood - Archer Of The Forest

Overview

Bring down a rain of arrows in Robin Hood: Archer of the Woods as you defend the village from waves of soldiers. It's a survival game as you fire arrows killing enemies for as long as you can. Just pull back on the screen, aim, and fire the arrows trying to go for headshots.

Features

There are multiple types of arrow power-ups giving you multi-arrows, piercing arrows, and bomb arrows. Each wave introduces larger numbers of enemies, and there are boss battles every few waves. Game Center and Crystal are included for online high scores and achievements.

The Good

The gameplay is simple for pick up and play, and is easy to control as you drag the entire length of the screen for the power of your shot, and not just from Robin Hood’s position. The wave difficulty increases nicely, and the power-ups are essential for long survival. The scoring system of head shots and consecutive enemy hits combined with Game Center offers some replay. The game is very nicely designed with highly detailed graphics of all the characters on screen. The animations are well done too with the blood squirting on a regular hit, and the screen flashing red on a headshot. There is an action packed soundtrack mixed with the screams of your kills.

The Bad

The game leaves you wanting more as it's relatively basic with only a survival mode. The mechanic in the survival mode is repetitive as you just pull back, and let go against more and more enemies. An alternate mode could help alot, or just any type of varying mechanic so it's not the same actions over and over. The playing field is larger than the screen so you have to scroll around to see the enemies approaching. It's tough to aim when you can't see the enemies or can't see where you're firing from. Otherwise you have to be all the way zoomed out which loses the fine detail of the game.

The Verdict

Robin Hood: Archer of the Woods is a very simplistic game in the gameplay despite having deluxe visuals. The gameplay mechanic gives you the same action over and over, and the survival mode is basic, and that's all that is included. Robin Hood: Archer of the Woods is not worth picking up as it's lacking depth especially compared to tons of similarly priced games in the App Store.
