When you think of a puzzle game you think of a more methodical approach to figuring something out which is especially accurate for the match three sub genre. Well Linkoidz is more action as an arcade puzzle game loosely based on the classic Neo-Geo game Magic Drop (which there is an iphone version of: Magic Drop Touch). In Linkoidz you’re stranded on an alien planet with only a gravity gun and energy shield, and you need to fight off the alien Linkoidz.
You pull down the Linkoidz, and then fire them back up to make a match of at least three vertically. The game is all about speed as you need to swipe down, and back up very quickly with Linkoidz right above your energy shield waiting to crash down upon you. Linkoidz is from the developers of Sneezies and Eyegore’s Eye Blast.
The game features three arcade modes with endless, sprint, and zen mode plus there are 30 training and challenge missions. It is universal for all iDevices, and supports Retina Display, and Game Center integration with OpenFeint. There is also the ability to challenge your friends to the fast paced action.
We got some hands on time with the game, and it’s simple to pick-up, but much harder to survive. It’s effortless to bring down Linkoidz and throw them back up with such a natural motion. One interesting aspect is that it plays very differently on iPhone and iPad with the smaller device a thumb flicking game, and the larger device using the rest of your fingers.
There is never a dull moment, and there are huge combos and chains you’ll need to make to survive. You can grab multiple Linkoidz in your gavity gun at once to make the vertical matches larger and that much easier. The game is coming October 26th, and watch the video below to see the game in action.
