Apple Makes Find My iPhone Feature Free With iOS 4.2

November 22, 2010
Who says Apple never hands out anything for free. As part of today's long awaited release of iOS 4.2 for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, the company is beginning to offer its Find My iPhone feature for free. Originally users needed to pay $99/year for the company's MobileMe service in order to use this feature. This is no longer the case. According to Apple's press release, this feature is only available for the iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod touch (fourth generation). To enact this feature, open the Settings app on your mobile device. From there, tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars," and select Add Account. On the next menu, tap on MobileMe. Here you will enter the account you normally use to buy media or apps using iTunes. You can create an account too, if you don't already have one. After Apple verifies your credentials, you'll be able to utilize the Find My iPhone features. For more information, visit Apple's new Find My iPhone page.
