To celebrate this Cyber Monday, we're happy to announce that we have partnered with Enflick, the developers of the extremely popular TextNow app to give away a bunch of free yearly and monthly subscription packages for their new calling service.
TextNow, for those of you who don't know, is a an app that provides iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users with unlimited texting using push notifications, for free. It's been very popular for a while, as it allows you to text as much as you want, without having to pay your carrier for a texting plan or roaming charges.
The app has evolved a lot over time, with features like the ability to integrate with Google Voice. It will even provide you with your own, free personal phone number, so anyone can text you directly, from any carrier or device.
Taking the idea of circumventing carriers even further, Enflick also recently added the ability to place and receive actual VoIP phone calls, using your TextNow phone number. In case you're not always on WiFi, you can actually use it over 3G just as well, or simply redirect calls coming to your TextNow number to any other phone.
I'm a huge fan of TextNow, as it allows me to text seamlessly in the States, without living in the US myself. Also, it's a great addition to any iPod touch, as it will let you use it almost like a phone as long as you have Wi-Fi access. Not to mention that it supports multiple devices, so you have all your texts in the cloud, with the ability to access, receive and respond to your messages from multiple devices, including the iPad.
Texting is included in the free app, thanks to ads (which can be removed via in-app purchase). Phone calls require a purchase of minutes, or a subscription. These are however fairly cheap, and even support a few international destinations.
Anyway, back to Cyber Monday. To celebrate this day of online shopping craziness, AppAdvice and Enflick have decided to give out, to five of you, an entire year of free calling using TextNow, that is, their $30 Voice+forwarding plan. Then, we also have as many as 10 free monthly calling plans to give out.
