Get iOS 4.2 & Multitasking On Your iPad Now, Here
November 2, 2010
Late last night Apple released the final Gold Master version of iOS 4.2 to developers. We've already shown you all the new features, and right now you probably want to try it yourself.
Well, you can. Gold Master releases don't require your iDevice to be registered in the developer program to work properly. So all you need is the new iTunes beta version, as well as the corresponding firmware file for your iDevice.
Uploading these files online can get you in big trouble, but apparently the guys at Gumballtech didn't mind. We have compiled a bunch of links where you can download everything you need. You can find all the files here, and once you've downloaded the appropriate firmware, just plug your iDevice into iTunes, hit restore while holding "option" on a Mac, or "shift" on a PC and select the 4.2 installation file. It will install, then activate using the new iTunes, and you're good to go.
If you're not sure about it, consider this: it will give you AirPlay, which is amazing. On the iPad, iOS 4.2 is life changing thanks to multitasking. Don't hesitate (unless you care about jailbreaking/unlocking).
Then, tell us how it went in the comments!
