Israel: Google Earth Helps Terrorists
November 1, 2010
You can find just about anything using Google Earth and the universal app of the same name. Now Israel is concerned that terrorists are using the application to find future targets.
According to Yahoo! News, Yuval Diskin, Israel’s domestic security chief stated:
"Intelligence once enjoyed only by countries and world powers can now be obtained through Internet systems like Google Earth, Internet cameras that are deployed all over the world and linked to the Web, or applications for IPhone devices that allow for quality intelligence to be received in real-time."Google has faced mounting criticism over its “street view” technology. This allows Google Maps users to see street level photos from around the world; including all of the people that just happen to be walking around when the photo was taken. Already, the governments of Germany and the UK are blasting Google over what they consider their “anti-privacy” techniques. Israel’s concern adds more to the criticism, but in a new way.
