BloodRunner ($0.99) by FunOnYourCell is a quirky platformer game where you control a little vampire and must help guide him back to his coffin in a very short amount of time.

You are the Blood Runner, a small and chibi vampire that needs to find his way to the safety of his coffin in ten seconds. But all around you are drops of blood, of which you must collect to prolong your time out of the coffin and to rack up points. But be careful of all the obstacles that stand in your way!

The controls in the game are simple - tilt the device in the direction you want to move in, level the device to stop, and tap to jump and double jump. You can also climb or slide down walls by tilting the device in the direction of the wall. Sounds simple enough, right?

There are 50 levels to play through, and each level gets increasingly difficult. In later levels, there will be obstacles such as various spikes (or actually, stakes...), holy water, sunlight, one-way walls and more that you will need to avoid as you journey back to your coffin. There will also be some fun obstacles, like bouncy moss.

Each level you start out with ten seconds to get to the coffin, which you will see the timer at the top ticking down to your demise. As you collect the drops of blood throughout each level, the timer will increase. I thought that this is a pretty new take on a platformer, and it does it well.

The graphics look amazing, and for iPhone 4 owners, you'll be happy to know that these graphics are Retina display ready. Music is also done well, and is a bit "Dracula" like, so it fits perfectly.

For those that are looking for a complete guide, the game includes one as well. No, not to cheat. It's a Survival Guide and it explains the controls and techniques of moving around, and also explains the various obstacles that you'll encounter.

OpenFeint is used for achievements and leaderboards, but no Game Center integration yet. There's a lot of achievements to get, involving collecting certain amounts of blood drops and by dying a certain amount of times by certain ways.

My only complaint is I have had the game crash sometimes, when it appears I am scrolling through the level choices too fast. It could be a memory issue with my iPhone 4, but thought that should be put out there.

The game is overall enjoyable and challenging, and is definitely a good time-killer for a dollar. It's also being featured on the App Store under New & Noteworthy, so make sure to check it out!
