Ngmoco and THQ have teamed up to bring the FPS style gameplay to the Star Wars Universe. Star Wars: Imperial Academy is an upcoming freemium game that combines Star Wars with Eliminate. You battle in online death matches in the imperial academy to work your way up to be an elite storm trooper for Darth Vader.
The game has the same engine as Eliminate with further refinements to the graphics and controls, but the same quick play connections. There are six locations from the Star Wars universe including Tatooine, Hoth, Star Destroyer Bridge, Tantive IV, and Cloud City Tower and Chamber. As you play you level up your stormtrooper to access new armor and weaponry.
Like Eliminate you only want experience when your elite bar is full, but you can still play the game when it's depleted. The game has key cards and credits as currency, and you can use actual money to buy new key cards for the various equipment. The game uses the Plus+ servers for the online connections and online high scores and achievements.
Star Wars: Imperial Academy in now live in the Canadian App Store for a beta test before releasing around the world. The game is pretty much Eliminate with a Star Wars theme, but the levels are a little bit more complex, and there are many refinements. More details here.
