Sneak Preview: Fantastic Update Coming To Perfect Photo - Grab It Before The Price Increase!
November 27, 2010
Perfect Photo is already a good multi-tool photo editing app. But the update coming next week will make it a must-own app, whether you’re a novice or an experienced iPhoneographer. It will allow you to do pretty much all the editing you could do on a computer without an expensive editing program. But with the update comes a price increase - so you may want to get it now while it’s still just $.99!
Brought to you by the same developer as FX Photo Studio (a great filters app that also offers basic editing, see our review), Perfect Photo is an editing app that also offers filters. There are a half-dozen fun filters, but editing is the focus. It is meant as a companion app to FX Photo Studio, not a replacement.
I got an advance copy of the updated app, so if you do get it now, keep in mind the UI will be slightly different.
Start by loading a photo or taking one in-app. Tap the artist’s palette icon to edit. Crop and Rotate/Flip are just what they sound like. Tap Alignment to straighten or tilt your photo.
The app offers quite a few different ways to tweak the color and lighting of your less-than-perfect photo. People often complain of iPhone camera’s photos tendency to be yellow -- you can fix this problem and more in these sections: Brightness/Contrast, Gamma, Exposure, Shadows, Highlights, Levels, Hue/Saturation/Lightness, Color Balance, and Color Temperature. There are sliders for everything, so you can tweak to your heart’s delight. You can also use these features to add a dreamy or artsy look.
Tap Sharpen to improve blurry pictures, or Denoise to remove noise from your photos. Each of these tools is usually sold as a separate app! View your original photo and the new version you are creating side-by-side, live, as you adjust the sliders. This immediate and clear feedback is a great way to see if you are really improving the photo or just making it worse.
If you want the filters, tap the magician’s hat icon. You get six filters here; Vintage (sepia), Posterize, Bloom (blur), Pencil Paint, Black & White, and Invert. Each one has sliders so you can alter the intensity and parameters of the effect.
When you are done, tap the disk icon to save. You can save to Photo Album, Documents (in the update) or Clipboard, and share via Facebook, Twitter (in the update), flickr, and Mail.
Two brand new features that are not in the current version: Red Eye Reduction and Spot Healing. This is what will really set this app apart from the pack.
I have scoured the app store and this is really the first truly effective and easy red-eye removal app I have found. Simply tap Red Eye Reduction, zoom in to the pupil, adjust the “red eye radius” slider as needed, and tap Apply -- that’s it! The red eye is gone.
Another great tool to be included this app is called Spot Healing. It’s a blemish remover which is not found in many editing apps. It works the same way that Red Eye Reduction does - zoom in on the zit or whatever, and apply. Gone!
Other changes in the update include multiple undo and redo, better adjustments for the effects, and an all-new interface and menu. In addition, all iPhone and iPod Touch iOS and models will be included.
Get in on Perfect Photo while it’s only $.99 -- it’s a good, solid app now, but after the update it will be amazing! And it will be more expensive, so you’ll be glad you got in on the deal when it was under a dollar!
