Star Walk just celebrated its second birthday. The popular app is used by individuals and educational institutions to study the sky.
The biggest update to the app is for iPod touch users. The fourth generation iPod touch now utilizes a gyroscope to take advantage of the compass features that iPad, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users have enjoyed (the iPhone 4 is also aided by the gyroscope to fix any compass errors).
Star Walk 5.0 also adds more things you can find in the sky. The app now shows the International Space Station and over 150 satellites. It also displays more galaxies, deep sky objects, and nebulae. Star Walk now includes more constellation pictures and it has more sharing features too.
TelRad is a new feature that helps measure the angular distance between nearby stars. This feature is fantastic for those using the app in an educational setting.
Another great addition is external monitor support. Star Walk now lets you view the sky on a huge monitor. This feature would also be quite handy in a classroom.
Star Walk 5.0 is now availableĀ for the iPhone/iPod touch for $2.99 and the iPad for $4.99.
What other great features would you like to see added for their third birthday? Let us know in the comments below.
