Chart: Smartphone & iOS Web Usage Across The World

December 3, 2010
Have you ever had a debate, with an iOS-hater (aka Android user), regarding the current state of the mobile platform war? You probably realized that it's really tough to assess what's really going on. For example, you probably heard a few times that Android is growing in the US, but who knows how much of that growth is due to Apple's exclusive deal with AT&T? It's also widely believed that RIM is going downhill, yet we see BlackBerry devices everywhere. To shed some light on the situation, Royal Pingdom compiled some stats from StatCounter about mobile web usage around the world. It's very interesting, as it splits popularity by continent, and gives you a good idea of what's really going on. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the iPad, which would also be relevant in this comparison. Nevertheless, you'll notice that iOS is doing particularly well in areas of the world where people have the choice of carrier, as well as the necessary purchasing power, of course. While the comparison is based on Web usage, we still believe it's relevant, at least to compare platforms like iOS and Android, which have some very decent browsers. Also, keep in mind that iOS actually allows using a lot of the Web without a browser, thanks to apps, while other platforms generally rely much more on a browser. Check it out, then tell us what you think:
