Google Launches Its Own E-Book Store & Dedicated Universal iOS App

A new contender has just announced their plans to enter the e-book space and it's not a small one. Moments ago, Google officially announced the launch of its very own e-book platform, named Google eBooks, and you'll be glad to know that it comes with a universal iOS reader app. Starting in the US only, and already with a few partners, the Google eBook store already boasts over three million titles in its library. All of which you can access from a dedicated iPhone or iPad app, as well as directly on your computer using the browser:

In addition to a full-featured web reader, free apps for Android and Apple devices will make it possible to shop and read on the go. For many books you can select which font, font size, day/night reading mode and line spacing suits you—and pick up on the page where you left off when switching devices.

The name is a bit misleading. Don't think you'll be given full access to all those books Google has been scanning over the last few years. Instead, it's a very classical e-book store with books you can purchase, including the bestsellers listed by The New York Times. This is a very interesting move by Google and we're looking forward to seeing more competition in this space. Hopefully this will help drive prices down.
