WebOut: First App That Brings AirPlay From The Browser To All Your iDevices
December 15, 2010
Many people were disappointed to discover that Apple's AirPlay was limited to just a few first-party apps at launch. Supposedly, Apple wasn't quite ready to put AirPlay in all of its app, nor to give developers access to it yet. Now, this might have changed, as a third-party app supporting AirPlay has just made its way to the App Store.
Spotted by 9to5mac, WebOut, an app that allows you to output your browser to a TV has just gotten an update that adds AirPlay capability. It's a great addition, as even Apple's own mobile Safari doesn't allow you to output videos from the web to AirPlay, only audio.
What this means is that thanks to WebOut, as long as the video is in html5, you'll be able to send it to your Apple TV. This is great, as many video services support HTML5, such as Vimeo and even live TV on FilmOn. Of course, such functionality has already been available to jailbreakers for a few weeks.
This may mean that developers will now be able to support AirPlay from within their apps to some extent. This is potentially very big news.
If sending web video to your Apple TV from your iDevice sounds good, WebOut is available now for iPhone and iPad on the App Store for $.99.
