ESPN Radio Update Adds Searchable Audio, Background Play, And Additional Content

January 31, 2011
ESPN has finally updated ESPN Radio for iPhone and iPod touch to v3.0, which adds a bunch of new personalization features and some new content to enjoy. Although Apple released iOS 4 with multitasking support many, many months ago, the single most exciting new feature for ESPN Radio fans has to be background audio support. Before today's update, the app would have to bring you into Mobile Safari to get audio to play in the background, or you would be forced to leave the app open while listening to your favorite shows. Now you are able to leave the app without a second thought and audio will continue to play, as long as you have a supported device. ESPN Radio now features the ability to search through tens of thousands of audio clips in order to find a specific topic, like your favorite team, player, or sport. It also includes more customization options, like favorites, myESPN, geo-location, and Twitter and Facebook integration. As for new content, the app includes over 40 podcasts from some of your favorite ESPN personalities, play-by-play broadcasts for special events, ESPN Local, ESPN Bottomline ticker, and even more live streams to choose from. The new and improved ESPN Radio is now available for $2.99. Those who already have the app installed and are experiencing display issues after the update should just reinstall it. Like all paid apps, you won't be charged a second time for re-downloading it.
