Gameloft Celebrates UNO's 40th Anniversary With A $.99 Sale

January 11, 2011
In 1971, Merle Robbins invented the game of UNO in order to resolve an argument he had with his son regarding the rules of Crazy Eights.  Little did he know that this argument would be the first step in creating a card game that's recognized around the world.  To celebrate UNO's successful 40-year run -- today is 1/11/11, get it? -- Gameloft has marked down both iPhone and iPad versions of the game to $.99 for a limited time. iPhone: UNO ($4.99 -> $.99): Allows you to play single or multiplayer games of UNO anytime, anywhere.  It features the ability to customize games with nine different rules, play in tournaments, or take your skills online. iPad: UNO HD ($4.99 -> $.99): Like the iPhone version, except this iPad-optimized version allows you to play against up to three of your friends on the same device. Check out our review to learn more. Also, if you are looking for a more tangible form of the card game, some retailers are offering a 40th anniversary edition for only $1.  I recommend picking up a deck and placing it in a safe place so one day you can show your kids what real, physical cards looked like.
