Namco Brings Competitive Pellet Eating To The iPad With Pac-Man Battle Royale
January 31, 2011
Namco is celebrating the North American launch of their competitive multiplayer Pac-Man arcade cabinet, Pac-Man Battle Royale, by releasing a free demo version of the game for iPad. Sadly, it will likely be the only way many Pac-Man fans get to experience the game since there are very few physical arcades left in the U.S.
Pac-Man Battle Royale is a multiplayer-only game, requiring two to four human players to go pellet chomping on the same iPad. On your journey through the maze, you will encounter the usual ghosts, food items, pellets, and other players. Running into a ghost will eliminate you from the game immediately, while running into another player will cause both of you to bounce away from each other, as long as you are in the same form.
The goal of the game is to simply hunt down the elusive power pellets to double in size and consume all of the other players before they do the same to you. The game only lasts a single round, and afterwards you are provided with a splash screen that will take you to the Pac-Man Battle Royale Facebook fan page, where you can find the nearest arcade cabinet.
Having had the opportunity to play both versions of the game, I can safely say the physical form provides a much more frantic and engaging experience, but with limited access to arcades here in the states, Pac-Man Battle Royale for iPad should easily quench your thirst for competitive pellet eating.
