Photo Delight: Don

Photo Delight: Don't worry about crossing the lines! ($1.99) by Global Delight is a photography app for your iPad that lets you selectively color your photographs for that dramatic effect.

One of the popular trends in iOS photography is desaturating a photo and selectively coloring it in, which tends to make the picture much more dramatic. There are several apps that do this, but the fine developers over at Global Delight wanted to make things a bit easier for you with the Smart Touch feature.

While Photo Delight contains the basics that you would expect, with Colorize, Mask, Brush, Erase, and Undo/Redo functions, the real delight is that Smart Touch will detect the color you want to reveal and only fills in that particular color.

Photo Delight allows you to pull in photos from your iPad's Photo Library, or you can even log in with Facebook and pull photos from your albums or even friend uploads. This little feature is great if you prefer having your photos on Facebook, or if you just have a certain photo in mind that you want to selectively color.

I found the Smart Touch feature to be very useful, but that doesn't mean that it makes things super-easy. I had to go over a certain area a few times with it to get in all the specific colors since it actually picks the specific shade and hue - shadows and highlights in a photo will make colors slightly different. While this was a minor inconvenience, it still makes it much easier than other apps that don't have any smart color select feature.

When you are filling in color without the Smart Touch feature, you are most likely going to go outside the lines. Zooming in and erasing is no problem with the pinch gesture, thanks to multitouch. The brush size and opacity are adjustable and can be a hard or soft (think an airbrush).

Past sessions will automatically be saved and can be accessed from the main menu with the button in the bottom corner. It shows a date and timestamp and a thumbnail of the image for easy reference if you ever want to go back to an unfinished photo. But before loading an older session, it would be a good idea to save the one you're on, which Photo Delight allows you to do via that same menu.

Additionally, options to Save, Print (via AirPrint), Share and Copy can be found in the menu as well. Sharing can be done by Facebook, Flickr, or Twitter uploads, email, or even send it to the Global Delight showcase. I found saving to be fast and painless. The photos appear to get saved in the same resolution that you imported them as.

Photo Delight makes selective coloring easy and it does it all in a nice, well-designed package that is easy to look at and intuitive.

If you want to add some punch to your photos, selective coloring is the way to go, and Photo Delight makes it hassle-free. Well worth the $2.
